We did our first Project for the "SiTech
Explorers" group. As for background information: SiTech in
Sweden has introduced the "SiTech Explorers" ( website
soon to follow ), which promotes diving and testing gear in different
parts of the world. Easy Dive Canada is the official "SiTech
Explorer" Dive Center for Eastern Canada. Our focus is to promote
diving at typical Cape Breton / Eastern Canada shipwrecks. When
we were approached for this project at Beneath the Sea this spring
by the owner of SiTech, it didn't take to long to convince us that
this would be a good idea. Our first project was the wreck of the
"ASTRAEA", which was on route from Ireland to Canada with
irish immigrants and which sunk on May 8th 1834. We relocated the
wreck site, placed a memorial stone to remember the 248 souls lost
( only 3 survived ) and documented the site both with Video and
Pictures. The pictures can be seen at our gallery. The complete
story about the dive as well as a letter of the priest overlooking
the recovery efforts as well as the letter from one of the only
three survivors can be found on the "SiTech Explorer"
website shortly. Our "SiTech Explorer" Team consists of
Harvey Morash from Louisbourg Scuba, Ronald Newcombe and myself.
